God's Provision...
Thursday night or Saturday night. Also known as poker night. It usually brings me great joy as poker night approaches. Friends. Poker. Suds. Interesting conversations... Last night, most of the usual crowd made over in spite of the pats/jags game. Brint, Nick & myself were the last 3 in, which isn't uncommon, & Brint commented that this game could go on forever. The next hand, all 3 were all in. Sadly, Brint won, followed by Nick, then obviously I was left clinging to my $5 buy in. Brint commented how he didn't know how he would pay for gas every week if it wasn't for poker night. I chimed in, why it's God's provision Brint. It's not something I'd develop a theology on, but I seemed to win a lot more when it was time to purchase another bag of diapers. I was going to leave this for Brint to blog, but since he slit his blog wrists, I guess he's left to commenting.

The year - 1980
The situation - Pregnant wife, no money, can't go with youth group to Great America.
The solution - Drinking coffee at casino before working Graveyard shift. Put change in nickel machine. Won $100.
My reaction - Paid $10 in tithe and went on the trip. Thank you Baby Jesus.
Stumbling block damage control - No I did not start gambling on a regular basis nor did I turn to gambling to solve my financial difficulties . . .
stumbling block control?
but daddy needs some new shoes, tim.
But Diga, didn't you know that the Roman soldiers gambled for Jesus' robe so gambling is a sin?
tsk, tsk . . . bad Christian . . .
i already used that, to which some smart ass replied that the disciples cast lots to replace judas.
Yeah, so there.
Yeah, but that was sanctioned like Catholic bingo . . . I only gamble when God tells me too . . .
Pokers not gamblig, it has far to much skill involved. Like chess, except you get rewarded when you win.
So would PJ aka double d consider poker more of a sport than gambling, due to the skill involved? I am waiting for my poker skills to really come in. On a related note... When we went to the Atlantis & played in the Hold'em tourney, it was really awesome. My heart was pounding for the first 15 minutes. It's way different playing in that setting with people who play like their lives are on the line.
I would say it is more of a sport. There are those who would disagree, and see you for the sinner you are. To them I say if you went and played with money that was for your kids clothes, grocieries (you get the picture)and planned on doubling it or at least make a profit, yes you could call it gambling. But if you took some money to just have fun with that would not impact you,(much like going to a movie, night on the town, out to dinner........) I would say it is now a sport and or a fun event. After all it is on ESPN. Here is a tip, stay away from drinking liquids once the cards are dealt. It is the easiest tell, tell sign to catch.
How much poker does pj watch. Maybe too much? Not enough? Is there such a thing. Brint has a tell. It is this...I have 2 7 offsuit. All in.
I would have thought Brents tell would have been saying something about the dealers mom and then going all in.
Brint is far too civil for that.
