My Christian...

Someone at my church approached me yesterday & started telling me about this new website he had created & how cool it was. He told me the site address & I lost interest completely. It is called something along the lines of my christian space. It's not the first time I've heard of "christian alternatives" to myspace, but I still had the same thoughts going through my head...BORING! This guy is a good guy & I know that he & probably the rest of the freaked out people have good intentions with their christian spaces. But, and a big but, I think he & the others in the christian community are missing the point. Christians have been called to be in the world, which means hanging out & interacting with the "fire-breathing heathens." In an attempt to provide a christian alternative, all that is really being done is creating a christian bubble so we don't have to see or put up with "them." The sad this is that the creating of christian bubbles is happening in our world today in more places that the internet.

Can you explain the photo and how it goes along with your post?

My only qualification to what you said is that perhaps some Christians do not have the strength or maturity to "be in the world and not of it" to the extent that they would need to be to participate in some activities. Just saying no is not so easy for some.

The photo shows my christian bubble. I agree with your point that some struggle to be in it, & not of it, but those who fit your description would probably not want to create or be in a "bubble" in the first place. They probably have a myspace account with 300 friends.

...this could make for some interesting discussion...does your distaste for "Christian alternatives" extend to, for example, music or colleges...just curious...

christian music...It is interesting to see that in other areas of the world, no distinction is made between secular & christian music. It's either good or bad. As for christian colleges, they serve their purpose, especially for those seeking educations in Bible.

In the post I just deleted, thorn asks, "why does christianity have to be all or nothing?" Ask baby Jesus why?
